Indie Fashion Week  Returns for Cycle 3 to Honor the Independent Icon Prince and Raise Awareness against Domestic Violence
Bringing the Excitement of Independent Fashion Back to the Nation's Capital!

Washington, DC (September 21, 2016)- "Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here today for this thing called FASHION!" From October 3rd-9th, Indie Fashion Week  will be hosting several events throughout Washington, DC. For Cycle 3, the fashion series will be paying homage "in style" to the Iconic Independent artist Prince Rogers Nelson, whose untimely passing rocked the world this year. In addition, Indie Fashion Week will be highlighting Domestic Violence as the month of October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Throughout the week, the color PURPLE will be represented throughout all of the events and several songs by Prince will the theme of each individual event.

Indie Fashion Week  was created by Harley Morgan and Terrance Payton (ROE the Agency, LLC) to create a fresh look at independent fashions who may not be able to gain big recognition when they first launch on the scene. Buyers, the media, influencers, style connoisseurs and the general public will get an ample opportunity to interact, connect with, and support Fashion, Beauty, and Lifestyle brands over a seven day span. Indie Fashion Week aims to bridge the gap between consumers and independent brands by building a platform to facilitate sustainability, brand expansion, and retail opportunities. Indie Fashion Week is building a new and vibrant fashion community by creating a space where tools can be provided to help fashion entrepreneurs to learn about the business of fashion, to hone their craft, to network with their peers, and to build long lasting business relationships.

When asked about the vision behind the creation of Indie Fashion Week, Co-Creator Harley states  "Indie Fashion Week is shifting the style culture in a multitude of ways. From highlighting the fashion brands from our area down to the EXPERIENCE that you receive with such a wide range of fashion-fused events, you have no choice but to be excited! The mood Is changing; the time has come for us to get excited about fashion here in our city!"

Demystifying the Guy Code Part 2 with Alliance for Women in Media- National Capital Area Chapter
Answering all the Questions you Really Want to Know from Men...and Women
Washington, DC (September 21, 2016)-  Earlier this Spring, The Alliance for Women in Media- NCAC (AWM-NCAC) chapter made a big move and created an event that featured an all male panel. What was it titled? “Demystifying the Guy Code”. Debuting at Sirius XM Headquarters in Washington, D.C., this captivating discussion was hosted by the one and only Washington, DC Radio personality Michel Wright, which was a sold out affair. Women from all facets of media tuned into what the male panel would share about the current state of women’s imagery and the challenges faced by women in corporate settings and their personal lives. It was an open forum style event and nothing was off limits! It was such a popular topic, that AWM-NCAC decided to host a Part 2 on October 13th at Sirius XM Headquarters with another dynamic panel line up and of course a new set of learning objectives, which include the following:

·         Identify tactics for navigating corporate culture in a gender-biased setting.
·         Join a network of other professionals sharing best practices in sexism.
·         Learn how to armour yourself with the right tools for handling difficult situations.
·         Receive information on other organizations to become involved with & stay informed.

Moderated by Sarah Fraser, Fox 5 Host & Lifestyle Blogger, this dialogue will once again be a controversial, but thought provoking discussion. With majority of the panel being men, for this event a surprise female guest has been added to assist with the balance of the conversation and to make it that much more “juicy.” You will have to attend the program to find out who this guest will be.

The full list of the panelists are as follows:

·  Guy Lambert, Radio Host, WPGC 95.5
·  Dan Steinberg, Reporter, Washington Post
·  Jeffrey Vargas, Chief Learning Officer, Comodities Futures Trading Commision
·  Dr. Wilmer J. Leon, III, Ph.D. Sirius XM Host, Inside the Issues with Wilmer Leon

In addition, AWM-NCAC is honored to partner with The Salvation Army's Feast of Sharing, a unique community servicing residents in the Washington area who are in food and shelter crisis. The organization will be collecting socks to donate to their mission and invites all attendees to assist in keeping the community safe and warm this winter. AWM-NCAC would like to thank Sirius XM for sponsoring this event and committing to diversity and equality in media.
