Education Trailblazer Dr. Monifa McKnight, Former Superintendent and HBCU Alum, Debuts Book and Business Launch in Nation’s Capital

Dr. Monifa McKnight marked a new chapter with the debut of her first book and the launch of McKnight Lotus Leadership Group, a leadership group dedicated to advancing equity and authentic leadership.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — September 23, 2025 — Dr. Monifa McKnight, award-winning educator, author, and the former first woman superintendent of Montgomery County Public Schools, brought together leaders, colleagues, family, and supporters on September 22nd to celebrate the launch of her debut book and her new company, McKnight Lotus Leadership Group, LLC.

The event, held at La Vie DC, served as both a celebration of her personal journey and a call to action for authentic leadership rooted in equity, connection, and community. Guests experienced a powerful afternoon that blended storytelling, inspiration, and shared purpose, culminating in the reveal of Dr. McKnight’s new book titled Full Flight: Lessons in Leading As a Black Woman in Education and the introduction of her leadership group.

“This launch wasn’t just about announcing my book or new business. It was about creating a space where people could come together, celebrate leadership, and see new possibilities for themselves,” said Dr. McKnight. “Through McKnight Lotus Leadership Group, I want to continue that work by equipping women in executive positions with tools, strategies, and support that help them grow authentically and make meaningful change.”

The McKnight Lotus Leadership Group will serve as a platform to extend Dr. McKnight’s lifelong mission of advancing equity and excellence in education and leadership. Through mentorship programs, executive gatherings, and strategic partnerships, the company will focus on developing women leaders, companies, and organizations who are prepared to break barriers and build thriving communities.

Dr. McKnight’s book builds upon her two decades of experience as an educator and leader. Blending personal reflection with professional insight, the work is designed to spark conversation, foster connection, and empower readers to embrace leadership that is both purposeful and joyful.

“This book is deeply personal to me because it reflects on the lessons, challenges, and triumphs I’ve experienced throughout my journey,” McKnight shared. “My hope is that everyone who engaged with this launch felt inspired, celebrated, and empowered to lead with confidence in their own lives.”

The launch event concluded with the unveiling of the book cover and a celebratory toast,  setting the tone for the next chapter of Dr. McKnight’s leadership journey.
